Most DWI bills may not become laws this year

Before the legislative session began, both Democratic and Republican parties filed bills to combat driving while intoxicated especially with repeat offenders.

Now there are three weeks left in the session and it is becoming apparent that most of these bills will not become laws this year. Many of these bills are still in the committees and if they are not in the House or the Senate by the end of the week, they will be dead.

One bill that may still have a chance is House Bill 3477, which means that the driver will have a 10-year suspension of a driver’s license or driving permit if convicted of a fifth DWI offense. Because it is becoming close the deadline the Representative who filed this bill stated that she is grateful that hers still has a chance.
