Former charity head receives 25 years in embezzlement case

The former head of an Austin charity has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after taking nearly $1 million from two non-profit groups and a church and then running with it.

The 52-year-old woman pleaded guilty to theft charges after leading a group that specialized in child care services before taking the money and running.

The woman fled to Venezuela after it was revealed that she had falsified records and stolen money. Six months later she returned to the U.S. where she was immediately arrested.
