Law enforcement pushes to change policy on domestic violence issues

Local law enforcement agencies in Corpus Christi are getting together in order to combat domestic violence.

The current process of prosecuting offenders takes a long time and many times the victims move and change their contact information so it is very difficult to get in touch with them. The police department along with the district attorney’s office is trying to change this process.

They are hoping that once police officers leave the scene of a domestic abuse call that counselors will step in right after to stay in contact with the victim and give them resources to help during this time.

Police have already mandated that victims take a class about the cycle of abuse before they can drop a domestic violence charge.
