Domestic violence down in El Paso for the year

The city of El Paso, Texas has seen a rise in domestic violence cases in the month of September 2011, but a decrease in the amount of cases for the year.

The police department reported that the number of cases in September has seen a 5.4 percent increase from last year at this time. The total for the year up until now (January 2011-September 2011) is lower than the same time period in 2010.

This year, there has been 4002 incidents of domestic violence in El Paso.  The District Attorney’s Office in El Paso was just recognized by the University of Texas for the 24 Hour Contact Program, which sends investigators to homes where a domestic violence arrest occurred within 24 hours of the arrest. This is done in order to allow the victims to feel as safe as possible after the traumatic situation.
