City of Amarillo discusses sex offender rules

The City of Amarillo has been discussing an ordinance that would deem certain areas  as the only places that registered sex offenders could live. City officials discussed whether or not an ordinance of this nature would really protect the children.

A Commission met in order to discuss whether concentrating sex offenders in one area was really a beneficial idea.  The idea has not been voted on at this time because officials feel as if there are too many unanswered questions.

The proposed rule currently states that sex offenders will not be able to live within 1,000 feet of private or public schools, day care centers, parks and pools and other youth-centered areas. Residents are concerned that by designated certain areas in the city for sex offenders to live, there will be a large increase of offenders in one area making it a more dangerous place.
