New Texas laws aim to help victims of domestic violence

New laws have been put into place in Texas in order to protect victims of domestic violence and help them get out of dangerous situations.

One new law states that an abuser can no longer threaten to take pets away or harm animals because this is now illegal. Some woman, or victims of domestic violence, may be scared to leave a dangerous situation because they do not want their pet to be harmed in any way. With this law, the women can feel more secure about her animal being safe.

Another new law has extended the time that a domestic violence protection order can last. It used to have a two year maximum, but now it can be much longer. In some cases, in can be life-long. For the order to made into a life-long order, a person must be able to show prove that the current order is not enough.
