Expert testimony discredited in “San Antonio Four” case

The Bexar County prosecutor reviewed the convictions of the San Antonio Four after an expert witness’s testimony was proved to be false. The San Antonio Four refers to four San Antonio women who were jailed in 1994 for alleged sexual assault on two children.

The four women were reported by Ramirez’s two nieces, who were age 7 and 9 at the time. The two young girls described successive assaults, where the women allegedly tied their wrists and ankles, hurt them, and made threats of killing them.

Ramirez was initially sentenced to 37 years of imprisonment while the three other suspects received 15-year sentences. Due to the recent developments, however, all of the women could be released.
