Pistorius to testify in court in Steenkamp death case

Twenty-seven-year-old South African Olympic marathon runner Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius, who has been charged with premeditated murder for killing his 29-year-old girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, will be testifying in court to prove that he did not intentionally cause Steenkamp’s death.

Pistorius’ defense was that he accidentally killed Steenkamp by shooting her through his bathroom door early on Valentine’s Day  in 2013 because he thought she was an intruder. He shot her four times in the head, arm, and hip

Pistorius, who may be imprisoned for life if he is found guilty of premeditated murder, is set to be questioned by chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel.

In South Africa, defendants have the right to remain silent during their trials, but since Pistorius openly admitted to killing Steenkamp, he has the responsibility to explain to the court his reasons for doing so.
