Two sentenced to prison for smuggling drugs from Mexico

Two men have now been sentenced for their role in a Texas drug ring after they were arrested for allegedly smuggling marijuana from Mexico into Houston.

According to the Houston Chronicle,the men pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and were sentenced by a federal judge this week. One man, age 60, was sentenced to five years in prison and the other man, age 33, was sentenced to over four years in prison.

These two were members of a group that involved more than 20 people, most of who were indicted in November. During an investigating into the drug smuggling ring, nearly five tons of marijuana was found.

Five indicted in Amarillo for drug, gambling charges

A federal judge in Amarillo has indicted five Borger residents for charges including drug trafficking and illegal gambling.

According to court records, four defendants were charged with possession and conspiracy to distribute nearly 5  kilograms of cocaine and 500 grams of methamphetamine.  A fifth person was indicted with charges of illegal gambling.

Three of the men allegedly owned a part of an illegal sports betting ring that was in existence for over a year. If the defendants are convicted, prosecutors will be seeking $600,000 in cash, seven properties in  Borger  and nine vehicles, including a Maserati and a Mercedes Benz.

Johnny Jolly suspended from Packers after drug arrest in Texas

Defensive linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, Johnny Jolly, was arrested in early October for a drug arrest and has now been suspended from the team.

Jolly was charged with possession of a compound that included codeine and trying to conceal the drug by tampering with evidence. The man was arrested and taken to a jail in Harris County.

The man was raised in Houston, Texas and this is the man’s third drug arrest in three years. In April, he plead guilty to a drug possession charge and struck a deal with prosecutors that allowed him to get out of another charge.

Police arrest two for drug charges after domestic violence call

Police have arrested two people with felony drug possession after they were found with marijuana.

A 24-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were arrested and taken to jail after being found with marijuana while in a drug-free school zone.

When the police responded to a domestic violence call at their residence, no one answered the door, but police saw them in the window. When they finally opened the door, police seized four ounces of marijuana.

Man wrongfully jailed for 25 years, arrested for drug charge

A man that was exonerated after 25 years in prison when new DNA evidence was found, was arrested again two weeks ago on a drug charge.

The man was wrongfully convicted of multiple sex crimes, but was released from prison in 2008 after serving 25 years for a crime that he did not commit.

After a person is wrongfully convicted, the state owes them thousands of dollars in compensation. If he is convicted of the felony he will not receive the payments or health insurance from the state.
