In the Metro Texarkana area, where an average of a thousand incidents of domestic violence is reported annually, two cases of domestic violence involving the use of firearms were recently reported.

The first involved a man who police identified as Daniel Bourg. Bourg shot and killed Lela Cason, his partner of 9 years, before committing suicide soon after.

The second, which fortunately didn’t involve the loss of any lives, involved 22-year-old Michael Benton and his girlfriend Kiara Kirkendall, 20. Benton held Kirkendall hostage inside their apartment for three hours before SWAT negotiators convinced him to surrender peacefully. Benton was charged with aggravated kidnapping and was taken into custody at the Bi-State Justice Center.

A sheriff in Harris County was recently injured in a car accident after he was involved in a head-on collision while stopped at a traffic light on northbound Texas 6.

In the past two decades, the number of teenagers who have gotten behind the wheel after consuming alcohol has been cut in half.

Federal officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study on the topic and released the findings last week.

Researchers found that in 1991, 22.3% of high school students age 16 or older admitted to drinking and driving sometime in the past 30 days. When the same study was conducted in 2011, this number decreased to 10.3% of high school students.

Officials with the CDC have stated that this large decrease may be because many states have tightened their drunk driving laws and further driving restrictions have been put on teenagers when they first receive their licenses. For example, the hours during which teens can drive at night have been limited.

If you are underage and have been charged with youth drunk driving, contact the Dallas DWI lawyers at the Law Offices of Mark T. Lassiter today.

The suspect, nicknamed the “Oil of Olay bandit’ has allegedly stolen tens of thousands of Oil of Olay skin care products from stores. Since the theft ring began, the 27-year-old man has stolen an estimated $40,000 worth of goods.

Police cannot find a current address on the man and they are currently trying to pinpoint it. Officials think that the man steals Oil of Olay products because they are more expensive making them more profitable to resell.
